SkillRelay vs. Claude org-provisioned skills

Claude's org-provisioned skills and SkillRelay solve different scopes of the same problem. If your whole team works in Claude and org owners are happy to manage skill files, Anthropic's built-in provisioning is free with Team and Enterprise plans and is the simpler choice; SkillRelay exists for teams that also use ChatGPT, Cursor, or other tools, or that want anyone (not just owners) to improve skills.

What Claude org skills do well

On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, organization owners can upload skills centrally and they appear for every member automatically, enabled by default (Anthropic announcement, Claude help center). Skills enabled on claude.ai also sync to Claude Code (Claude Code docs), so distribution covers Claude's whole surface. There is nothing to host and nothing extra to pay for.

Where the boundaries are

Three boundaries matter in practice. Ecosystem: org-provisioned skills exist only inside Claude; a team that also uses ChatGPT or Cursor maintains a second copy of everything. Who can edit: only organization owners can add or update org-wide skills, and updates are made by uploading skill files, so the person who noticed the outdated pricing in a skill files a request rather than fixing it. Change management: there is no version history, named authorship, review queue, or one-step revert for provisioned skills.

What SkillRelay does differently

SkillRelay stores skills once and delivers them to Claude (through the same org plugin sync mechanism), ChatGPT and Codex (as an importable plugin), Cursor (as Agent Skills directories), and any MCP-capable tool (as a live connector). Anyone with Editor rights changes a skill by saying what is wrong in a normal chat; every change is a new version with a named author; any change reverts in one sentence; and admins can turn on per-pack approval gates. Claude Team or Enterprise is still required for Claude's automatic delivery, because SkillRelay rides the same sync.

Using both

The two are not exclusive. Some teams keep Anthropic's provisioning for Claude-specific skills an owner maintains, and use SkillRelay for the shared library that non-owners edit and other tools consume.

SkillRelay is a hosted skill library that syncs across the AI tools a team uses. Overview · Product reference · How it works
